A young man died while trying to steal a cable at the ECG Substation in Adoato, Ashanti Region. He was electrocuted early on Saturday, April 19, 2025. The incident occurred when he attempted to take an earth wire near the Metro Mass Transit Station in Greater Kumasi.
This event caused power outages for many customers in Greater Kumasi and surrounding areas. Vandalism of ECG equipment is becoming more common in the Ashanti Region. Benjamin Obeng Antwi, the Public Relations Officer for ECG Ashanti West, noted recent acts of vandalism at various locations.
The ECG warns the public against these illegal activities. Such actions disrupt stable power supply and can lead to fatalities. They urge everyone to help protect ECG installations by reporting suspicious activities.
