Suspected gunman arrested in Binduri during military cordon and search operation – GAF

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) confirmed the arrest of a suspected gunman. This occurred during a search operation in Binduri. The operation aimed to restore calm in the Bawku area.

GAF stated that troops launched the operation early Monday morning. They heard sporadic gunfire from the Binduri Central Market area. Personnel quickly moved to the location and cordoned it off.

A combined team from the 11 Mechanised Battalion and Joint Task Force joined police. They conducted detailed searches to identify those involved. During this, one suspected gunman was arrested and handed over to police for investigation.

Troops also retrieved a cache of weapons and military gear. This included an AK-47 rifle, a G3 rifle, and 370 rounds of ammunition. They found 128 rounds of G3 ammunition, an empty M16 magazine, a machete, four fragmentation jackets, boots, and a helmet.

Later that day, military personnel thwarted an attempt by unidentified gunmen to enter Binduri. An exchange of gunfire occurred between armed men and security forces. The attackers retreated as a result.

The situation is now under control. The military has increased patrols in the area and remains alert for threats.

GAF is working closely with other security agencies for regional safety and peace. They urged residents to support these efforts by cooperating with security personnel to restore normalcy.
