A suspected gunman has been arrested in the Binduri District.
This follows a search operation by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
The operation took place early on Monday, April 21, 2025.
It aimed to restore calm in Bawku and nearby areas.
These areas have faced clashes and intermittent gunfire recently.
According to a GAF statement, troops heard gunshots near Binduri Central Market.
They quickly responded and cordoned off the area.
A combined team from the 11 Mechanised Battalion and Joint Task Force assisted.
Police also supported the operation with their presence.
During the search, one suspected gunman was apprehended.
He was handed over to the Police for further action.
The security team seized several military-grade items during the operation.
These included an empty M16 rifle magazine, an AK-47 rifle, and a G3 rifle.
They also found 370 rounds of M16 and AK-47 ammunition.
Additionally, they recovered 128 rounds of G3 ammunition, a machete, four fragmentation jackets, boots, and a helmet.
Later that day, unknown gunmen attempted to infiltrate Binduri.
Military personnel on patrol prevented this infiltration.
An exchange of fire occurred between the military and the gunmen who fled.
The GAF stated that the situation is currently under control.
Troops remain on high alert for any emerging threats.
The GAF is committed to maintaining peace in Bawku.
They urge residents to support efforts to restore normalcy.
