Dr. Joshua Jebuntie Zaato is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana. He praised suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo for her determination to fight against her removal. He believes this situation highlights the need for judicial accountability and the rule of law.
On Channel One TV's Breakfast Daily, he expressed his support. "I am happy that the Chief Justice is fighting to the end," he said. He appreciates that this case is public, allowing everyone to witness it.
Justice Torkornoo is currently suspended and faces three petitions for her removal. She has petitioned the Supreme Court to disqualify two members of the inquiry committee. These members are Justices Gabriel Scott Pwamang and Samuel Kwame Adibu-Asiedu.
Her petition names several respondents, including former Auditor-General Daniel Yao Domelevo and Major Flora Bazwaanura Dalugo. Justice Torkornoo also seeks to restrain the committee from taking further actions related to the inquiry.
President John Mahama suspended her under Article 146 of the Constitution, pending proceedings' outcome.
