Martin Kpebu, a private legal practitioner, has made a statement. He believes suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo should fire Godfred Yeboah Dame as her counsel.
Kpebu criticized Torkornoo's choice of legal representation. He said it could harm her case. Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News, he remarked, “Chief Justice’s choice of Godfred Dame is tacky; it is not the best at all.” He accused Dame of suborning and coaching witnesses to lie in court.
Kpebu questioned why Torkornoo chose Dame from all lawyers in Ghana. He stated, “It’s not on; she has to fire Dame.” He added that this decision might upset those who support a public hearing.
In response, Godfred Yeboah Dame clarified his position. He stated that representing Torkornoo does not indicate alignment with the NPP. According to him, his actions align with his commitment to defending the Judiciary.
Speaking on JOY FM, Dame emphasized the importance of standing up for justice. He said, “We cannot let people mislead the public and go uncorrected.” He insisted that his actions are consistent with his career since becoming Attorney General.
Dame also rejected claims of illegality in his actions. He asserted that good men must speak out for righteousness. “If there is any Attorney-General who has stood up for the judiciary, it is myself,” he concluded.
