Kwaku Ansa-Asare, former Director of the Ghana School of Law, has spoken out. He claims suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo and her legal team are disrupting a lawful process.
Ansa-Asare believes the Chief Justice's injunction undermines the Constitution. He stated that Torkornoo and her team are "barking" but cannot "bite."
His comments follow Torkornoo's lawsuit at the Supreme Court. She aims to stop a five-member committee investigating her removal. On May 21, 2025, she requested an injunction to halt all proceedings.
Torkornoo also seeks to remove two justices from the panel and quash her suspension by President Mahama. Ansa-Asare expressed concern about this attempt to stop a constitutional process.
He said any application to halt it would be unconstitutional. According to him, only the president can initiate a Chief Justice's removal process. He added that the president has followed all necessary steps in this case.
Ansa-Asare concluded that halting the process will be very difficult. He reiterated that Torkornoo and her lawyers are merely making noise without real power.
In contrast, Edudzi Tamakloe supports Torkornoo’s injunction application. The NDC's Director of Legal Affairs finds it refreshing and interesting.
Speaking on CITI FM, he noted that this application shows how justice works for everyone. Tamakloe hopes Torkornoo will receive all opportunities under the Constitution as a citizen.
He believes it's important for her leadership to experience the justice system she helped create over the years.
