Suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo is challenging her suspension.
On May 21, 2025, she filed a writ at the Supreme Court. Her legal counsel, Godfred Yeboah Dame, is a former Attorney-General. Justice Torkornoo seeks declarations and orders to nullify her suspension.
She wants the Supreme Court to declare President Mahama’s decision arbitrary and unconstitutional. She argues it violated her right to a fair trial.
Justice Torkornoo claims her right to a public hearing has been violated. She asks the court to affirm her entitlement to such a hearing.
She also requests recognition of her right to waive an in-camera hearing. She believes this waiver is within her legal privileges.
Additionally, she wants Justices Gabriel Scott Pwamang and Samuel Adibu-Asiedu barred from the committee proceedings.
Justice Pwamang chairs the five-member committee but is unfit for this role. She argues his previous rulings favoring petitioner Daniel Ofori compromise his neutrality.
Regarding Justice Adibu-Asiedu, she maintains he is disqualified as well. He served on a Supreme Court panel related to the impeachment process.
Justice Torkornoo believes his participation creates a conflict of interest.
