Bismark Tetteh Nyarko is the MP for Upper Manya Krobo. He stressed the need for a private probe into petitions against the suspended Chief Justice. This should follow constitutional provisions strictly.
Nyarko noted that while the judiciary is independent, it must adhere to the 1992 Constitution. He argued that any deviation from this procedure would be inappropriate. “If the constitution says this investigation should be in camera, it should be,” he stated on Channel One Newsroom on May 25.
His comments come amid discussions about making hearings public. There are calls for greater transparency in this process. However, Nyarko insists that constitutional directives must be followed.
“The procedures are clear, and the constitution is explicit,” he added. He believes if the President or committee follows these demands, it is correct.
The MP expressed surprise at reports about the spouse of the suspended Chief Justice wanting to attend hearings. He questioned why such participation was necessary. “The constitution mandates a private inquiry,” he reiterated. “If it is in camera, that should be it.”
