Suspended Chief Justice ‘barking but cannot bite’ – Ansa-Asare

Kwaku Ansa-Asare, former Director of the Ghana School of Law, has criticized Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo's legal action. He calls it unconstitutional. Justice Torkornoo was suspended by President John Dramani Mahama under Article 146 of the Constitution. This suspension followed three petitions for her removal.

Torkornoo has filed an application at the Supreme Court. She wants to stop Justices Gabriel Scott Pwamang and Samuel Asiedu from participating in her inquiry. She claims they held private meetings with a lawyer involved in the case. Additionally, she seeks an injunction against the presidential committee investigating the petitions.

Former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame filed this application on her behalf. Ansa-Asare warned that this move threatens Ghana’s constitutional integrity. He spoke to Joy News on May 21, stating that halting the process is worrying.

He emphasized that President Mahama acted according to the Constitution. Ansa-Asare argued that interrupting this process would be difficult. He stated, “What the lawyers are doing is merely barking but cannot bite.”
