Suspension is ‘the least’ punishment Mahama can give to Sammy Gyamfi - Walewale MP

Dr. Kabiru Tia-Mahama is the MP for Walewale. He is also on Parliament’s Finance Committee. He believes that suspension is “the least” punishment for Sammy Gyamfi, the acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board.

He shared these views during an interview on JoyNews’ The Pulse on May 12. This discussion focused on a viral video involving Mr. Gyamfi.

Recently, Sammy Gyamfi has faced heavy public criticism. A video showed him giving dollar notes to Nana Agradaa, a controversial preacher. This footage has drawn backlash from both inside and outside the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Some party members are calling for disciplinary action against him. They believe his actions undermine the party's commitment to accountability and integrity.

Dr. Kabiru Mahama emphasized that this situation requires a strong response from party leaders. He stated, “I think that’s the least that can happen to him.” He feels anything less than suspension would be seen as weak.

He added that the NDC must demonstrate discipline and integrity as it prepares for national leadership. While some grassroots members want stronger sanctions, Dr. Mahama believes a suspension would send a clear message against unacceptable conduct.

The party has not yet issued an official statement regarding this issue.
