Dr. Kwadwo Adae, founder of Sweet Medical Centre, is helping 21-year-old Solomon Akugru. Solomon is a victim of the tragic June 3 disaster at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in 2015.
This event happened nearly ten years ago. It claimed over 150 lives and left many injured. For Solomon, the trauma remains visible through scars on his face and unfulfilled dreams.
Dr. Adae's offer came during an interview on Joy Prime’s Changes show. The interview aired on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, with Roselyn Felli.
Online journalist Kobby Kyei mentioned that Solomon received support from NEIP. This support followed the publication of his story about begging for daily needs.
When asked about the support, Solomon said he was satisfied but had one request. He wanted surgery to correct the scars on his face.
“I need someone who will help me do a surgery so I can look normal again,” he said in Twi.
A few minutes later, Dr. Adae joined the conversation and offered his support. He promised to sponsor the surgery after medical evaluations determine if it is feasible.
Dr. Adae explained that the type of surgery will depend on medical test results. He noted that they need to check for any functional impairments related to the scars.
He stated, “We need to find out if he can open his mouth fully or breathe normally.” The medical examination is expected to begin in June in Kumasi at Dr. Adae's facility.
In addition to being a surgeon, Dr. Adae is known for his philanthropy. He supports individuals with similar conditions who cannot afford treatment.
There is hope that Solomon will undergo necessary examinations and eventually have surgery to restore his facial appearance and confidence.
Solomon dreamed of becoming a successful lawyer before the tragedy disrupted his education. However, he has chosen a new path at age 21.
He now aims to learn tiling as a trade with support from NEIP CEO Eric Adjei, who provided him with tools for this new journey.
