TEWU-GH clashes with TUC boss over reckless remarks about representation on University Council

The Tertiary Education Workers Union of Ghana (TEWU-GH) has criticized comments made by Joshua Ansah. He is the Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC).

Mr. Charles Arthur, Local Chairman of TEWU-GH at KNUST, spoke to Kumasi FM. He called Mr. Ansah's remarks “biased” and uninformed.

Mr. Ansah vowed to resist TEWU-GH's representation on university councils. Mr. Arthur believes this stance undermines fair representation and organized labor principles.

He noted that Mr. Ansah should remain neutral as head of Organized Labour and TUC General-Secretary. According to Mr. Arthur, Section 112 of Ghana’s Labour Act includes all recognized unions in the Tripartite Committee.

He emphasized that Mr. Ansah should represent all unions, not just TUC affiliates. TEWU-GH has a larger membership than TEWU-TUC at KNUST and deserves representation.

Mr. Arthur urged Mr. Ansah to understand the tensions between TEWU-GH and TEWU-TUC better before making statements. He warned that ignoring TEWU-GH could lead to unrest in universities, especially at KNUST.
