The Tertiary Education Workers Union of Ghana (TEWU-GH) is opposing the inclusion of Michael Ayuune, a representative of the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU-TUC), on KNUST's council.
TEWU-GH, which broke away from TEWU-TUC in 2022, claims to represent over 1,000 members compared to TEWU-TUC's dwindling 20.
The union accuses KNUST management of flouting the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission’s (GTEC) directive to pause appointments until the legitimacy of representation is settled.
TEWU-GH has demanded Ayuune’s removal from official council documents and insists no union attends council meetings until GTEC resolves the dispute.
Union leaders warn failure to comply could lead to unrest, stressing that they will ensure their members are fairly represented.
