TTH Controversy: GMA condemns health minister’s actions, demands apology

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) is unhappy with how doctors were treated at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH). This occurred during a visit by Health Minister Mr. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and Tamale North MP.

In a statement, the GMA condemned the dismissal of the hospital's Chief Executive Officer (CEO). They called it an abuse of power and a violation of due process.

The GMA believes the CEO's dismissal was unjust. They demand accountability from the Health Minister for overstepping his boundaries.

They also expressed full support for the doctors involved. The situation is concerning for the entire medical community.

Additionally, the GMA raised concerns about a media audit after a patient’s death at TTH. They stated that media coverage breached patient confidentiality and posed legal risks to the hospital.

The GMA criticized rushing to judgment against doctors before an investigation. They noted that public opinion had already judged them guilty.

While acknowledging family concerns, the GMA stressed proper channels should be used for grievances. Public confrontations are not appropriate in these situations.

Finally, the GMA called on both the Minister and MP to apologize unconditionally for their treatment of doctors involved.
