TTH: Patients stranded, consulting rooms empty as doctors begin strike

Frustration and confusion filled the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) on Thursday, April 24, 2025. Patients arrived early for medical care but found empty consulting rooms.

On April 23, doctors at TTH suspended emergency and outpatient services indefinitely. They cited “unwarranted attacks” from Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and Tamale North MP Alhassan Suhuyini. This decision followed an emergency meeting of the Doctors’ Association of Tamale Teaching Hospital (DATTH).

The suspension came after a statement condemning an incident during the minister’s visit on April 22. DATTH announced that all members would stop providing emergency and outpatient services. This includes general OPD, antenatal clinic, specialist clinic, and pediatrics OPD.

During a visit by Citi News on April 24, patients were seen waiting in queues. However, no doctors or medical personnel were present to assist them.
