The Minority Caucus on Parliament’s Health Committee has made an appeal. They are asking the Doctors Association of Tamale Teaching Hospital (DATTH) to reconsider its decision. DATTH recently suspended emergency and outpatient services at the hospital.
This suspension followed accusations against Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh. Doctors claimed he verbally attacked staff during a visit to the Accident and Emergency Unit. Tamale North MP Alhassan Suhuyini was also accused of similar behavior.
In response, Mr. Akandoh denied any disrespect towards healthcare workers. He urged the striking doctors to return to work. He emphasized the importance of dialogue and mutual respect.
The Minority Caucus expressed support for medical professionals at TTH. They acknowledged the dedication and sacrifices made by these workers despite challenges. However, they warned about the impact of the strike on vulnerable patients.
Many patients rely on TTH for urgent care and specialized services. The caucus stated their concerns about both immediate and long-term effects of service suspension. They appealed to DATTH leadership to urgently reconsider their decision for public health's sake.
As of now, the strike by DATTH has entered its second day. Many patients and their families remain stranded with no resolution in sight.
