TUC demands immediate halt to public sector dismissals

The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has urged President John Mahama to stop the mass termination of public sector workers, warning of dire consequences for young Ghanaians and the nation’s democratic image.

The union condemned the dismissal of teachers, nurses, and other professionals who have struggled for years to secure employment.

The layoffs follow a directive from the Chief of Staff, revoking appointments made after December 7, 2024.

The TUC argues that this decision undermines governance and calls on the President to extend amnesty to all affected workers, as was done for security recruits.

The union insists such a move would set a lasting political precedent and restore trust in public institutions.
