Hassan Tampuli, a member of parliament for Gushegu, has made a request. He urged the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to engage former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta through digital means.
Tampuli spoke on Channel One TV. He suggested that Kissi Agyebeng reconsider Ofori-Atta's request for a virtual session. He emphasized that there are other options for engagement with the OSP.
Tampuli stated, “The OSP should take advantage of this medium.” He believes digitisation can bring positive change. The OSP should utilize digital platforms to connect with Ofori-Atta.
His comments follow the OSP's rejection of Ofori-Atta's virtual session request. Kissi Agyebeng insisted that he must appear in person at the OSP.
Agyebeng explained, “This office has always requested his attendance.” He noted they would not waive this requirement. If they were open to statements from him remotely, they would have acted earlier.
He added, “We want him here physically, and we insist on it.” A suspect cannot dictate how investigations are conducted. The office will not accept such behavior in this case.
The Special Prosecutor also mentioned an INTERPOL red notice process. This could lead to international arrest and extradition for Ken Ofori-Atta.
“About 30 minutes before this brief, I triggered processes for an INTERPOL red notice,” he said. This notice aims to locate and provisionally arrest him pending extradition or surrender.
The OSP has accused Ofori-Atta of causing financial loss to the state. This includes issues related to the National Cathedral project and contracts involving the Ghana Revenue Authority and Health Ministry.
