Tamale Teaching Hospital CEO’s dismissal: The one who has prerogative to hire also has prerogative to fire- Sammy Gyamfi

Sammy Gyamfi is the Acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC). He stated that those who hire also have the right to fire.

On April 24, Mr. Gyamfi spoke on Joy FM's Super Morning Show. He defended the dismissal of Dr. Atiku Adam, CEO of Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH). He said this decision was within the rights of the appointing authority.

Dr. Atiku Adam was dismissed by President John Mahama. This followed reports of mismanagement and medical negligence at TTH. Allegedly, these issues led to a patient's death.

The dismissal occurred after Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh visited TTH unexpectedly. This visit came after the patient’s death raised concerns.

When asked about the controversy, Mr. Gyamfi responded firmly. He said unless someone proves a legal violation, no apology is needed for the dismissal.

He added that if Dr. Adam feels his rights were violated, he can seek legal action.

Mr. Gyamfi reaffirmed that those who hire have the authority to fire as well. The power to terminate an appointment lies with those who made it initially.
