Tamale becoming transit point for drugs and arms - Northern Regional Police raise alarm

The Northern Regional Police Commander, ACP Wisdom Lavoe, has shared important news. Tamale is becoming a major transit point for arms and drugs. He links this issue to the ongoing conflict in Bawku.

Despite these challenges, the police are working hard to improve security. ACP Lavoe spoke during a meeting with Interior Minister Mohammed Mutaka. The Minister was visiting the Northern Region.

Lavoe stated that the Bawku conflict has national implications. Tamale's strategic location connects it to five northern regions. It is also becoming a refuge for people displaced by the conflict.

He emphasized that his officers are responding swiftly and professionally to these threats.

The Interior Minister reaffirmed the government's commitment to community safety. This comes as Ghana prepares for a 24-hour economy.

He acknowledged the concerns raised by ACP Lavoe. The Minister assured police personnel that their welfare is a priority.

He said, “We will do whatever it takes to ensure your safety.” This support will help police keep communities safe.

The Minister noted that new demands will be placed on security agencies, especially police forces. To address this, he announced collaboration with the Youth Employment Authority (YEA).

This partnership aims to strengthen law enforcement resources in Ghana. The Minister mentioned plans for implementing a 24-hour economy soon.

He revealed they will train about 12,000 young men and women for this purpose. The training program will be led by the Police Administration.

These recruits will assist with frontline duties and community safety initiatives. Their support will help sustain efforts in maintaining public safety as Ghana transitions into a 24-hour economy.
