A Tarkwa Circuit Court has fined a 23-year-old small-scale miner, Ahmed Abdul Rahaman, GH¢12,000 for defrauding two mobile money vendors of GH¢8,000.

Failing to pay the fine will result in six years of imprisonment.

Rahaman, who pleaded guilty, convinced Evelyn Lartey and Prince Appiah, vendors in Wassa Asikuma, to transfer funds to his mobile money account, promising repayment through his “brother.”

He used the money to gamble, intending to win and reimburse them but lost.

After being confronted at home by both vendors, Rahaman was handed over to the police.

The court, presided over by Mrs. Hathia Ama Manu, also ordered Rahaman to refund the stolen GH¢8,000.
