Police have arrested a taxi driver for transporting suspected cannabis.

The arrest occurred on Monday, June 2, 2025. It was part of an operation by the National Highway Patrol Unit of the Ghana Police Service.

The suspect is Ernest Mohammed Adjiri. He was driving a Hyundai i10 taxi with registration number GW 9832-22 when officers stopped him for inspection.

During the search, officers found three fertiliser sacks. These contained 120 slabs of compressed dried leaves believed to be cannabis.

Mr. Adjiri admitted ownership of the seized substances during questioning. He is currently in police custody and will face charges in court.

In a related case, the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) detained four individuals at Kotoka International Airport. This happened on Sunday, May 18, 2025, while they attempted to smuggle cannabis out of Ghana.

These arrests were made during routine profiling and intelligence operations by NACOC officers.

One of those arrested was Jada Chyna Brown-Frater, a 23-year-old British national. She was stopped during pre-boarding checks for a British Airways flight to Gatwick.

A search of her luggage revealed 32 slabs of cannabis weighing 17.72 kilograms. She has been taken into custody and is expected to face prosecution.
