Telecel Ghana Foundation expands connected health initiative with Mother’s Day outreach

The Telecel Ghana Foundation celebrated Mother’s Day 2025 with a health outreach in Prampram, Greater Accra.

They provided life-saving healthcare through their Healthfest and Rural Ultrasound Scan initiatives.

The event took place at the Prampram Polyclinic on Friday, May 9th. It impacted over 1,000 people directly. They offered free ultrasound scans for 314 pregnant women and health screenings for 423 community members. Additionally, they registered 300 people for NHIS.

During Healthfest, attendees were screened for blood pressure, blood glucose, hepatitis B, typhoid, and malaria. They also received free medical consultations and treatments. A full team of doctors, nurses, and pharmacists was available to provide immediate care.

Rita Agyeiwaa Rockson leads the Foundation's Sustainability & External Communications. She stated that their Connected Health pillar aims to bring quality healthcare to underserved communities. “This Mother’s Day, we’re supporting women’s wellbeing with actionable care,” she added.

The Rural Ultrasound Scan initiative addresses gaps in maternal healthcare access. For many expectant mothers in rural Ghana, routine scans are often unaffordable. This can lead to undiagnosed complications and preventable risks.

By offering these services for free, the Foundation promotes early detection of potential complications. They also empower women with knowledge about their pregnancies. Mothers received welcome packages with essential baby care items to ease their motherhood journey.

Humphrey attended after hearing about the event from his mother. He said he got screened and diagnosed while registering for NHIS. “It’s been a blessing,” he shared.

Rebecca Nyame traveled from Tema Community 25 for antenatal care after learning about the event. She expected a simple scan but received much more than that: medical checks and baby items made her feel valued.

In partnership with the Ghana Health Service, the event included antenatal education sessions on maternal nutrition and self-care practices. This reinforces the Foundation’s holistic approach to maternal health.

These Mother’s Day interventions show Telecel Ghana Foundation's commitment to equitable healthcare access in communities.
