The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Tema Central is urging calm. This comes as anticipation grows for a new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) appointment.
On April 13, 2025, the NDC Constituency Executive Committee issued a press release. It was signed by Chairman Benjamin Djakumah. The committee called for unity and restraint among all stakeholders and supporters.
Djakumah emphasized the importance of peace during this time. He urged everyone to respect the democratic process and avoid divisive actions or words.
“At this critical time, we call on all members to remain calm,” he stated. He reminded the public that selecting an MCE is the President's constitutional right. This process involves consultation with relevant stakeholders.
The goal is to serve the collective interest of Tema’s people. “We trust in the President’s wisdom to appoint a competent leader,” Djakumah added. This leader should be committed to integrity, fairness, and development.
The NDC executives pledged support for any nominee from President Mahama. They reiterated their commitment to peace and progress in Tema Central.
Djakumah declared that they will support any presidential nominee for unity's sake. The statement received backing from Ward Coordinators, Branch Executives, and grassroots members.
They called on the entire Tema Metro community to unite in respect and patriotism. Appointing MCEs across Ghana often leads to intense lobbying and reactions.
However, the NDC's appeal aims to maintain political stability during this transition period.
