Tema-Mpakadan rail line to be operational soon  - Railway Dev't Authority CEO

Dr. Fredrick Appoh, CEO of the Ghana Railway Development Authority, announced good news. The Tema-Mpakadan railway line will start operations soon. Major repairs and safety checks have been completed.

On May 14, Dr. Appoh spoke on The Pulse on JoyNews. He confirmed that two trains for this route are ready for service.

He emphasized the importance of expanding railway infrastructure. "Tema to Mpakadan is a key asset for the country," he said.

Dr. Appoh dismissed rumors about delays due to fuel shortages. He stated that the trains are “operable” and “ready to go.”

A track inspection on March 15 revealed serious issues needing urgent attention.

"We found many problems," he explained. "Buffer stock was almost gone, taken by scrap dealers." Many nuts and screws had been illegally removed from the tracks.

He noted that illegal encroachment and theft caused much of the damage. A mitigation action plan was initiated by the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC).

“Currently, 75% of this plan is nearly complete,” Dr. Appoh said. "We have replaced all stolen materials."

He stressed his goal is to ensure a safe railway line before starting services.

Final work is ongoing to meet full safety standards, with service expected soon.

“I have tasked my team; we are almost there,” he assured. “Service between Tema and Adormi will commence very soon.”
