Deputy Minister for the Interior, Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, explained the presence of armed security at Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako's home. This occurred during an operation on Friday morning in Kumasi.
In an interview with Citi FM, Terlabi said the security services acted on intelligence. He emphasized they did not intend to harm the politician.
“The security services are on top of their job,” he stated. “No one is above the law.” He added that if someone breaks the law, they will face consequences.
Terlabi noted that the operation was based on intelligence. He mentioned that details were still being gathered but confirmed it was not random.
Responding to Wontumi’s concerns about heavy security and armed personnel, Terlabi said precautions were necessary. He referred to Wontumi's public statements as a reason for this caution.
“My brother, we would criticize security if they went unprepared,” he said. He highlighted past challenges Wontumi made against security forces and the President.
Terlabi compared the situation to handling a dangerous animal. “If you catch a wild dog, you must be prepared,” he explained.
He also mentioned that while they initially intended to invite Wontumi, plans changed later. “They did not go there to kill him,” he clarified. Instead, they decided to reschedule for Monday.
