Thank You Tour: Bawumia trying to emasculate competitors in NPP race - Kwadwo Twum Boafo

Ing. Kwadwo Twum Boafo is the CEO of the Financial Intelligence Centre. He criticized Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's ‘Thank You’ tour. Bawumia is the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate for the 2024 elections.

Twum Boafo called the tour a calculated move to undermine rivals. He believes it aims to help Bawumia win the flagbearer race.

During a panel discussion on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana, he compared Bawumia’s actions to those of Nana Akufo-Addo in the past. He noted that Akufo-Addo used similar strategies to secure his leadership position.

Twum Boafo stated that Dr. Bawumia, a protégé of Akufo-Addo, is using these tactics again. He wants to weaken his competitors and gain another chance at presidency.

“Dr. Bawumia is replicating what Akufo-Addo did,” he said. “Beat possible contenders down into submission and let me be re-elected as flagbearer.”

He suggested that instead of calling it a ‘Thank You’ tour, it should be an ‘Apology Tour.’ This would better reflect the current situation.

“They should have labelled it an apology tour,” he said. “He should apologize for all he has done.”

Twum Boafo questioned what Ghanaians should be thankful for, given their hardships under NPP rule.

He believes Dr. Bawumia's self-promotion will not work this time. Ghanaians are now more discerning and can see through such tactics.

According to him, Dr. Bawumia had eight years to prove himself as a leader. Instead, he was part of a government that caused significant hardship for many people.

“What is different now is that Ghanaians are very wise,” Twum Boafo said. “They know about the lack of leadership from Bawumia during those eight years.”
