A group within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) called Citizen Eye Ghana has raised concerns. They are worried about the ongoing Thank You Tour by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and party executives.
The tour started on April 23, 2025, at the party’s headquarters in Asylum Down. It aims to thank supporters after the NPP's defeat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 elections. The theme is “In All Things, Give Thanks to God” (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
The initiative seeks to promote unity and gratitude among party members. The tour will cover all sixteen regions, with a key event in Ashanti Region from April 29 to May 1. This region is politically significant for the party.
The program will end in the Central Region on June 4, 2025. However, Citizen Eye Ghana criticized the tour in a statement. They see it as a strategy to promote Dr. Bawumia rather than a genuine party effort.
They stated that there is currently no presidential candidate for the NPP. Yet, they believe this tour unofficially promotes Dr. Bawumia as the chosen flagbearer. This sidelining of other aspirants is concerning for them.
The group also expressed concern over using official party resources for this purpose. They called for fairness and inclusivity within the NPP leadership. They urged leaders to uphold democratic principles as the party moves forward.
“This conduct is deeply troubling,” they said in their statement. Using party resources to boost one aspirant's visibility is inappropriate and unfair, they added.
