Retired Supreme Court Judge, Justice William Atuguba, has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He accused them of hypocrisy regarding the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
In an interview with Joy News, Justice Atuguba questioned the party’s moral authority. He pointed out their past record while in power. He asked if they acted transparently and in the public's interest.
Justice Atuguba expressed frustration over the neglect of public interest in Ghana's politics. He believes the NPP's current stance shows a troubling trend among political leaders. They often speak out only when power changes hands.
He described this behavior as pure hypocrisy. He is concerned about how public interest is sidelined in political discussions.
Justice Atuguba also noted that leading up to the 2024 elections, the judiciary faced ridicule. On social media, it was mockingly called “unanimous FC.” This referred to unanimous verdicts seen as favoring the NPP.
He questioned whether President Mahama was responsible for this ridicule. He asked what actions the NPP took while they were in office.
His criticism follows a protest by the NPP and its affiliates on May 5. They protested against the decision to suspend Chief Justice Torkornoo in Accra.
