Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has announced the commencement of Ghana’s 24-hour economy following Parliament’s approval of the Ghana Gold Board Bill 2025.
The bill establishes a regulatory body to oversee gold purchases, sales, and exports, aiming to boost transparency and stabilize the cedi through increased foreign exchange earnings.
Calling it a historic achievement, Ayariga commended Parliament for working late into the night to pass the legislation. “Indeed, the 24-hour economy has started right here in this chamber,” he remarked.
However, the bill faced strong opposition from the Minority, with concerns that it could legitimize illegal mining.
The move has also reignited debates about Ghana’s readiness for a 24-hour economic system amid ongoing economic challenges.
