The Council of State has failed us, the judiciary is our last hope – Afenyo-Markin

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the minority leader, has spoken out. He believes the judiciary is Ghana’s last hope. He claims the Council of State has failed Ghanaians.

Afenyo-Markin emphasized that the judiciary must unite. The suspension of the Chief Justice threatens our democracy. He urged judges to set aside their differences and defend their institution.

At the “Save the Judiciary” protest, he said, “The judiciary is our last hope.” He expressed concern about attacks on democracy. He criticized a petition targeting the Chief Justice as flimsy.

He stated, “The Council of State has failed the government.” Afenyo-Markin warned judges that they could be next. They should not serve political interests or government whims.

He added that all judges should support each other. The attack on one judge affects them all. They need to work towards a fair system for everyone.

Stephen Amoah, an MP from Nhyiaeso Constituency, also spoke at the protest. He warned that poor families would struggle to find justice in future cases of defilement.

Amoah noted that those responsible for justice are being suspended. He advised market women to return home early for safety.

He stated, “The Constitution is no longer working.” If police and courts fail to function, citizens are unprotected.

He urged mothers to rush home after selling in markets for their safety. Amoah warned that without money, families would suffer if crimes occur.

He concluded by saying those meant to ensure justice are facing reproach from this government.
