**Arrest of Chinese Nationals**
National Security Operatives have arrested eight Chinese nationals and one Ghanaian. They are linked to missing consignments from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
Security agencies have located 40 out of 1,350 missing ECG containers. These were found in a warehouse at Kpone, near Tema. Some ECG cables were also discovered at a smelting house in Shai-Hills.
Energy Minister John Jinapor announced the retrieval of the 40 containers on March 27, 2025. He stated that the warehouse belongs to an Indian man. The Indian claims he bought these containers from ECG in 2024.
The minister confirmed that the 40 confiscated containers are under investigation. He emphasized that law enforcement will ensure justice is served.
**Ongoing Investigations**
Minister Jinapor mentioned that intelligence is leading them to other locations. They aim to retrieve all missing containers. He assured that those responsible will face legal consequences.
He cautioned against labeling their actions as witch-hunting. “These are state properties,” he said, stressing the need for legitimate recovery efforts.
**Recent Arrests**
News broke last night about the arrests made on Thursday evening. The National Security operatives acted on intelligence regarding an aluminum smelter owned by the Chinese at Shai Hills.
This followed Minister Jinapor's announcement about tracing 40 missing consignments linked to an Indian man who claimed ownership.
**Missing Containers Report**
Earlier this week, Minister Jinapor received a report on approximately 2,500 ECG containers stuck at Tema Harbour. The report revealed over 1,350 containers are missing from the port.
On his Facebook page, he shared facts about these missing ECG containers. During his transition period, he was informed about around 3,000 ECG containers held at Tema Harbour due to clearance issues.
However, upon visiting the harbour himself, he found only about 2,500 containers present. This discrepancy led him to form an investigative committee for further verification.
The committee confirmed over 1,300 containers were indeed missing. As a result, criminal investigations will begin immediately against those responsible for this situation. The government remains committed to addressing such irregularities firmly.
