**Arrest of Chinese Nationals**
National Security Operatives have arrested eight Chinese nationals and one Ghanaian. They are linked to missing consignments from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
Security agencies have located 40 out of 1,350 missing ECG containers. These were found in a warehouse at Kpone, near Tema. Some ECG cables were also discovered at a smelting house in Shai-Hills.
Energy Minister John Jinapor announced the retrieval of the 40 containers on March 27, 2025. He stated that the warehouse belongs to an Indian man. The Indian claims he bought the containers from ECG in 2024.
Minister Jinapor confirmed that these containers have been confiscated. They are now part of an ongoing investigation. He emphasized that law enforcement will ensure justice is served.
The minister mentioned that intelligence is leading them to other locations for further retrievals. He assured that those responsible will face legal consequences but cautioned against accusations of witch-hunting.
**Recent Arrests**
As of last night, news emerged about the arrests related to the missing ECG containers. Eight Chinese nationals and one Ghanaian were apprehended at an aluminum smelter owned by the Chinese in Shai Hills.
This followed Minister Jinapor's announcement about tracing 40 missing consignments linked to an Indian man who claimed they were sold to him last year.
**Investigation Findings**
Earlier this week, Minister Jinapor received a report on approximately 2,500 ECG containers stuck at Tema Harbour. The committee's findings revealed over 1,350 containers are missing from the port.
On his Facebook page, Minister Jinapor shared details about these missing ECG containers. He noted discrepancies in container counts reported by previous administrations.
Initially, around 3,000 containers were said to be held at Tema Harbour due to clearance issues. However, upon inspection, he found only about 2,500 containers present with significant demurrage costs incurred.
Due to these discrepancies, he formed an investigative committee to clarify the situation regarding the containers. The committee confirmed over 1,300 containers are indeed missing contrary to earlier claims.
Minister Jinapor stated that criminal investigations will begin immediately against those responsible for this issue. The government is committed to addressing such irregularities firmly and ensuring accountability.
