Stephen Amoah, a Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso Constituency, has raised concerns. He believes the constitution is no longer effective in Ghana.
Amoah spoke at the 'Save the Judiciary' demonstration. He said that if your child is defiled and you are poor, you will struggle to find justice. He emphasized that when police, lawyers, and courts fail to function, citizens feel unprotected.
He urged market women to return home early. He warned that there is little legal protection if something happens to them. Amoah stated that without money, parents will be helpless if their child is harmed.
He criticized those responsible for ensuring justice. According to him, they are being suspended and facing reproach from the government.
Many Ghanaians reacted to his statements online. Some expressed frustration with the government's actions. Others questioned how he could protest if the constitution was truly ineffective.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is also protesting today against Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo. They claim her suspension by President John Dramani Mahama threatens judicial independence.
The NPP marched through Accra alongside other political parties like the Liberal Party of Ghana and National Democratic Party. They argue that attempts to remove Torkornoo are dangerous interference in the judiciary.
This demonstration follows Mahama's decision based on a prima facie case against Torkornoo determined by the Council of State. The President formed a committee under Article 146(6) of the Constitution to investigate related petitions.
