The debt NPP left behind was more than all governments combined – Shamima Muslim

Journalist and analyst Shamima Muslim has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for its handling of Ghana’s economy, arguing that the debt accumulated under its administration surpassed that of all previous governments combined.

Speaking on GTV, she dismissed claims that current economic progress is due to NPP policies, insisting that the party left the country in financial distress.

She pointed to high inflation, excessive borrowing, and a collapsing cedi as key reasons why Ghanaians voted the NPP out.

Muslim questioned how the party could now claim to have been better economic managers when its policies led to widespread hardship and business failures.

Her remarks highlight the ongoing debate over Ghana’s economic challenges and which administration should be credited—or blamed—for the country’s financial trajectory.
