The Africa Center for Security and Counterterrorism (ACSC) has condemned the wrongful arrest of three siblings in Kumasi. They accused the police of unprofessionalism and called for urgent reforms.
“This is a troubling breakdown in police procedure and accountability,” ACSC stated. They emphasized that law enforcement must uphold due process.
Reports show that officers arrested the young men without probable cause. They were pursuing a murder suspect at the time. “Instead of investigating properly, the police hastily paraded them as murderers,” ACSC noted. This action harmed their reputations and livelihoods.
Two brothers have lost their jobs since the arrest. Their mother had to plead for their release. “The police must apologize as publicly as they humiliated them,” ACSC insisted.
The organization called for disciplinary action against the involved officers. They urged the new Inspector-General of Police to ensure accountability.
“This is not just one case,” ACSC said. “If officers can arrest innocent citizens without consequence, what does that say about our justice system?”
They also demanded policy reforms to prevent public displays of suspects before formal charges are made. An independent investigation into systemic failures was also requested.
“The principle of innocence until proven guilty seems ignored here,” ACSC emphasized. “If citizens fear arbitrary arrests more than they trust the police, we have a crisis.”
The organization concluded that law enforcement must restore professionalism and respect for citizens’ rights. Such abuses erode public trust and weaken the justice system, they warned.
