Kwasi Kwarteng, a former spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, is calling for a deeper investigation. He wants to look into the missing containers imported by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
Kwarteng spoke on The Forum at Asaase Radio. He emphasized the need for accountability beyond political debates. He believes the focus should be on procurement processes and oversight.
He stated, “Discussions should center on how the contract was awarded.” He also asked about which company received the contract and its total value. Kwarteng stressed that attention must shift to how contracts are initiated and executed.
He raised concerns about logistics in clearing goods. Kwarteng questioned ECG’s role in overseeing this process. He also highlighted issues with transparency during delivery.
“If delivery terms were clear, why are containers missing?” he asked. He wondered if ECG appointed an agent to clear the goods and who that agent was. Kwarteng also questioned which warehouse was used.
Expressing frustration, he suggested that these situations may lead to profit and negligence. “It seems this has become a business day for those involved,” he said. He pointed out a culture of impunity regarding public resources.
Kwarteng urged authorities to take firm action. He warned against turning this incident into a political spectacle. “We cannot let politics overshadow this issue,” he concluded, insisting that real culprits must face consequences.
