John Jinapor, the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, says no need for a one-day dumsor timetable.
He explained that Ghana generates enough power to meet demand. However, there is no excess capacity. When one plant goes offline, it causes disruptions.
Jinapor stated they cannot publish a load-shedding timetable if they can restore the plant quickly. He urged Ghanaians to be patient as the government addresses these challenges.
He said, “We have enough generation just to meet demand.” He added that when a plant goes down, immediate disruption occurs. They must work around the clock to bring it back online.
Jinapor emphasized that they inherited a system with no reserves. The generation and demand are currently equal. Sometimes, consistent supply may only happen once every week or two.
He questioned how they could publish a timetable for such short outages. Jinapor expressed confidence in restoring plants in the coming weeks and months.
He reiterated that challenges from the previous administration require time to resolve. He believes significant progress is being made and expects improvements soon for uninterrupted power supply.
