Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, the National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), criticized Minority Members of Parliament (MPs). He spoke about their protest at the Police Headquarters over delayed Ablekuma North election results. Vanderpuye called the protest unnecessary and misdirected.
On Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily, he argued that the demonstration seemed like a publicity stunt. He believed it aimed to gain media attention rather than address a constitutional issue. Vanderpuye pointed out that the Electoral Commission (EC) is responsible for declaring election results, not the police.
He suggested that by protesting at the police station, MPs were seeking sympathy instead of resolution. “Some of them have developed bellies and want to exercise,” he stated. He questioned why they petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) instead of addressing their concerns to the EC.
Vanderpuye emphasized that petitions should go to the EC, which conducts elections. “The IGP does not conduct elections; they should know that,” he said. He advised MPs to go to court if they believe the EC has failed in its duties or to petition the EC directly.
