They’re dying for nothing – Ghanaian woman pleads for police withdrawal from Bawku conflict zone

A Ghanaian woman, Kaakyire Antwiwaa, has made an emotional appeal. She addressed the Inspector General of Police, COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno. This follows the recent killing of two police officers in the Upper East Region.

In a heartfelt TikTok video, Antwiwaa urged the IGP to withdraw officers from Bawku. She highlighted that families live in constant fear and anguish.

“Mr IGP, we beg you in the name of God to withdraw our husbands and relatives from Bawku,” she said. “We can’t sleep because we are scared to lose them.” She expressed sorrow over the murder of an officer who had just joined the service.

Antwiwaa noted that this tragedy is part of a troubling trend. Young men and women in uniform are losing their lives while serving in dangerous areas.

“Last year, two immigration officers and two army officers were killed there,” she stated. “Many personnel have lost their lives in the Bawku conflict.” She emphasized that peace efforts seem ineffective.

The plea comes after two young police officers were killed at Binduri. This town is near Bawku in the Upper East Region. The officers were deployed to help maintain peace amid ongoing violent clashes.

These conflicts involve the Kusasis and Mamprusi ethnic groups and have lasted for years. Many lives have been lost, including those of security personnel stationed there.

The recent deaths have sparked public calls for a reevaluation of government strategies in the region. Many believe that officer safety should be prioritized where peace efforts are failing.
