Third Force alliance backs CJ suspension

The Third Force Alliance Ghana supports the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo. They call this move lawful and justified.

The coalition believes President John Dramani Mahama's actions are not politically motivated. They state he acted within constitutional boundaries.

At a press briefing on May 6, Awudu Ishaq, General Secretary of the People's National Convention (PNC), spoke about the suspension. He emphasized that judicial officials must be accountable for misconduct.

Ishaq said, "The suspension is not a celebration of anyone's downfall but a celebration of constitutionalism." He added that President Mahama's decision reflects faith in the rule of law.

The Coalition criticized the "Save the Judiciary" demonstration by the New Patriotic Party (NPP). They called it flawed and indicative of the party's declining credibility.

They stated, "The demonstration was monumentally flawed and shows NPP's sinking image." The coalition described it as an effort by a minority leader to regain political ground.

Additionally, they made recommendations for reform. They suggested amending Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution.

They proposed that an independent judicial body should determine prima facie cases against judges, including the Chief Justice. This change would ensure greater impartiality in such matters.

The Third Force Alliance includes several registered political parties in Ghana: CPP, PNC, GFP, GCPP, and APC.
