This is a mockery of justice, a ruse to unjustifiably remove me from office – CJ Torkornoo ‘cries’ out

Suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has criticized the committee investigating her. She calls it a mockery of justice. Torkornoo believes the committee aims to unjustly remove her from office.

In a supplementary affidavit, she alleges violations of her rights. This affidavit was filed with the Supreme Court on May 26, 2025.

Torkornoo detailed several troubling incidents in her affidavit. She mentioned being denied access to the hearing room for her family. She also faced searches and restrictions on communication devices for herself and her lawyers.

She noted that petitioners had access to their devices while she did not. The hearings took place in a high-security zone at the Castle, Osu. Torkornoo views this as mental torture and degrading treatment.

She stated that all previous Article 146 proceedings occurred in judicial facilities. The choice of a high-security facility for her case is perplexing.

Torkornoo described the process as a “mockery of justice.” She believes it is an attempt to remove her from office unjustly.

On May 23, 2025, despite ongoing legal processes, the committee continued its inquiry. Torkornoo expressed concern about their intentions: “They want to break me.”

She emphasized that her treatment exceeds what even treason suspects endure. Torkornoo sees the Supreme Court as vital for protecting judicial independence.

She stated she has not been informed about any prima facie case against her. Without knowing the allegations, she feels unable to defend herself properly.

“This is bigger than me,” she warned. The security of tenure for all justices is at stake, along with constitutional integrity.
