This is how Catholics will mourn Pope Francis in Ghana

The Catholic Diocese of Sunyani is mourning the death of Pope Francis. He passed away at age 88 on April 21, 2025.

Bishop Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi wrote a pastoral letter to the faithful. He encouraged them to include Pope Francis in their Mass intentions. He also asked them to observe the nine-day mourning period, known as novendiale.

Requiem Masses may be held in parishes. Memorial spaces will be created to honor his memory.

Cardinal Kevin Farrell announced the Pope’s death from Casa Santa Marta. He said, “Dearest brothers and sisters, with deep sorrow, I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis.” The Bishop of Rome died at 7:35 this morning.

Cardinal Farrell praised Pope Francis for his dedication to God and His Church. He taught us to live by Gospel values with courage and love. This was especially true for the poorest and most marginalized people.

He expressed gratitude for Pope Francis as a true disciple of Jesus Christ. Cardinal Farrell commended his soul to God's infinite merciful love.

Bishop Gyamfi concluded his message with a blessing: “May the Peace and Joy of the Risen Lord continue to be with you.”
