Samuel Nartey George, the Minister for Communication, has responded to a recent incident. This involved Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo Markin slapping a police officer.
Sam George criticized those who justified attacks on him by national security operatives. He shared a video of his own attack during the Ayawaso by-election. In his post on X, he questioned why people are now attacking police officers doing their jobs.
His comments followed a viral video from May 4, 2025. The video showed Afenyo Markin punching a police officer at the "Save the Judiciary" demonstration. Protesters were trying to break through a police barricade when this occurred.
Reports indicate that tensions rose when Afenyo Markin was almost denied entry to Parliament House. He intended to present a second petition to the Speaker.
In response, Afenyo Markin has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP). He claims Constable Forson assaulted him during the demonstration. The minority leader described Forson as tall and heavily built.
Afenyo Markin stated in his petition that Constable Forson assaulted him at Parliament's entrance. He aimed to counter what he called misleading narratives about the incident.
On May 5, 2025, he detailed how Constable Forson struck him near his heart. He said this left him dazed and short of breath.
He emphasized that this assault was serious because it happened while Forson was being reprimanded by superiors. Despite this, Forson allegedly responded defiantly.
Afenyo Markin stressed that they must stay focused on defending constitutional principles and judicial independence during demonstrations.
