Thousands mark one-week passing of Asante Mamponghene

On Monday, May 12, thousands gathered in Asante Mampong. They came to observe the one-week commemoration of the late Asante Mamponghene, Bretuo Piesie Daasebre Osei Bonsu II.

Dignitaries included former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Other attendees were members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Barima Sarfo Tweneboah Koduah, the Paramount Chief of Kumawu. Former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong was also present, along with other politicians and local leaders.

On April 28, the Bretuo family informed Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II about Daasebre Osei Bonsu II's passing. This notification followed Ashanti customary rites.

On May 5, Otumfuo directed Nana Agyakoma Difie II to arrange for burial soon. He emphasized that the one-week observation should occur on May 12 without delay in preparations.

Daasebre Osei Bonsu II died weeks ago after a short illness. Before becoming Mamponghene, he served as Registrar at KNUST in Kumasi and worked as a lawyer.
