Three Chinese nationals who were feared kidnapped following a suspected pirate attack on a Ghanaian-registered fishing vessel have been confirmed safe, according to China's foreign ministry.
The Ghana Armed Forces had earlier reported that seven armed individuals boarded the MENGXIN 1 vessel on March 28, firing warning shots and seizing crew members' phones.
The attackers remained on board for three hours before leaving, after which three crew members were found missing.
While details regarding their rescue remain undisclosed, China's foreign ministry assured that all crew members are safe and pledged continued cooperation with Ghana to protect Chinese nationals.
Piracy remains a persistent threat in the Gulf of Guinea, where foreign vessels, including Chinese-owned ships, frequently operate under Ghanaian registration.
