A heavy security presence is at the Bole Municipal Assembly. This is ahead of the confirmation vote for Abdulai Mahamud as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE). The vote is scheduled for today, Monday, May 12, 2025.
Thirty-nine delegates will cast their votes during this exercise. Tensions have risen in the Bole Municipality recently. On Friday, May 9, many youth protested against Mahamud’s nomination.
Protesters accused authorities of ignoring local voices in the selection process. This demonstration led to the postponement of the initial confirmation vote.
In response to potential disruptions, security has been tightened around the assembly premises. Journalists have been denied access to the venue as well. Security personnel are enforcing strict measures to maintain order.
