Dr. Bryan Acheampong, former Minister for Food and Agriculture, has started his campaign for NPP leadership. He is also the Member of Parliament for Abetifi. In a video shared widely, he spoke in Pidgin English.
Acheampong acknowledged the NPP's loss in the 2024 general election. He urged party members to reflect on this outcome. “We went for an election in 2024 that did not go well,” he said. He emphasized understanding why Ghanaians chose not to vote for them.
He stressed the importance of unity within the party. Disunity and public disputes are damaging the party’s image, he warned. “Let us stand together,” he urged party members. “We must be one in heart and mind.”
Dr. Acheampong announced that he formed a committee to consult with party members and Ghanaians. This committee will assess if his vision aligns with their aspirations. They have one month to conduct this consultation.
He highlighted key focus areas for his potential leadership: jobs, food security, youth development, and infrastructure. “I have worked hard for this party,” he stated. He has experience from grassroots organizing to being an MP and cabinet minister.
Acheampong added that he has contributed financially to the party as well. His experiences have shaped his vision, which he wants to share with Ghanaians.
