The government's spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, believes fighting illegal mining is a lifelong effort.
He stated that there is no guarantee people will stop illegal mining. Therefore, the government must be committed to addressing this issue.
Kwakye Ofosu thinks setting timelines for the fight against illegal mining is not necessary.
He said, “I am not sure that a timeline is the conversation we should be having. It should be a lifelong activity.”
He emphasized that humans will always want to break the law. The state must remain vigilant against illegal mining activities.
Kwakye Ofosu wants people to see real commitment from the government. He believes action should be taken against anyone engaged in galamsey.
This view marks a change from his previous stance while in opposition.
Previously, he claimed that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) benefited financially from galamsey.
He urged Ghanaians to vote out the NPP if they wanted to eliminate illegal mining.
