Timelines not needed; fight against galamsey should be lifelong – Felix Kwakye Ofosu

The government's spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, believes fighting illegal mining is a lifelong effort.

He stated that there is no guarantee people will stop illegal mining. The Ghanaian public wants a government dedicated to this fight.

Kwakye Ofosu thinks setting timelines for the fight against illegal mining is not necessary.

He said, “I am not sure that a timeline is the conversation we should be having. It should be a lifelong activity.”

He emphasized that people will always want to engage in galamsey. Whenever someone attempts it, the state must act against it.

Kwakye Ofosu noted that humans often break laws, so vigilance is essential. He stressed the importance of showing commitment to combatting illegal mining.

He wants people to see action taken against those involved in galamsey. “What matters is demonstrable commitment,” he added.

This stance marks a change from his previous views while in opposition.

Previously, he believed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) benefited financially from galamsey activities.

He urged Ghanaians to vote out the NPP if they wanted to eliminate galamsey from the country.
